About the session

After the blackout in Taipei on 15 Aug 2017, Taiwan Power Company (TPC) rolled out the urgent plan to upgrade the power system protection automation and control with IEC 61850. The major upgrade is focused on the protection relay information flow and time synchronization. In order to ensure the implementation at the highest quality and speed, TPC management and engineers adopted a list of quality control actions at different stages of their implementation. Our IEC 61850 consulting team reinforced TPC since the very first session and witness the whole digital transformation process from 2017 to the present.

In this paper, we will share TPC's approach in adopting the general interoperability test from UCAiug's IOP session. We will also share the unique test requirement because of the localized need for IEC 61850 digitalization.

Our paper will also share the importance of education and suggest the most effective way of IEC 61850 training based on the level of demand in Taiwan.
