Use Of Wide Area Monitoring to Maintain System Stability as the GB Electricity System Transitions to Net Zero
As the GB electricity system transitions to net zero we are losing a significant amount of the traditional generation that provided stability support. As a result, purely monitoring frequency is not sufficient and we require more detailed information to understand the impact of new technologies and ensure that the system remains stable and ensure we don’t experience unexpected protection trip of generation, demand or plant. As we move towards operating a net zero electricity system on an increasing basis, we are needing to install WAMS based systems to support the decisions being made by our control room engineers.
