About the session
The world is changing. With the phenomenal success of GPS and it’s rise over the past 15 years to be ubiquitous in everything we do, society has become critically dependent on satellite navigation and timing. With increased dependence has come a new generation of threats; criminals, terrorists, and nation states inspired by the success of cyber‑attacks and exploiting vulnerabilities in a system not designed for mass public use. At the same time, a new generation of applications is emerging which place increasing demands on navigation and timing systems: autonomy and robotics, internet‑of‑things, big data. There is an increasing nervousness about using satellites navigation, but there is life in satellite navigation yet. This talk will explore the changes in navigation technology which are enabling a new generation of robust, secure satellite navigation receivers, and exploring the future of navigation and timing.
