About the session

The new "Code of Practice for Low-Voltage Direct Current (LVDC) Power Distribution in Buildings" will be published by the IET in 2015. This Code of Practice will set out the requirements for the design, specification, selection, installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance of LVDC power distribution in buildings, including LVDC supplies and sub-systems. LVDC power distribution allows for an alternative approach to powering such direct-current (DC) systems as LED lighting and consumer electronics (e.g. smartphones and tablet devices), with the potential to achieve carbon savings by reducing power conversion losses. This presentation discusses: the IEEE 802.3 standard; IEEE DC in the home; the Emerge Alliance; Redwood; and other sectors.
