About the session

This presentation gives an overview of traditional approaches to electric traction distribution architecture and protection systems. It gives an update on development work carried out on IEC 61850 for application to traction systems. An illustration of the simplification of the distribution architecture made possible by IEC 61850 is provided. The speaker also discusses the capability for system management which can be achieved with an integrated protection and control system, and speculates on some possible future developments.
