This presentation discusses protection of train drivers and the public at user-worked crossings. With modern technology, it would be a fairly simple exercise to provide at least a visual indication to the road user of when it is safe to cross. We have been asked to investigate the feasibility of a simple system to achieve this. There are many hundreds of user-worked crossings around the country, and any system that can reduce the danger must be considered on merit.
