Abstract
London Underground is London’s metro system which operates 10 lines. The Northern Line is one of these lines and was upgraded in 2013. This upgrade involved replacing the old signalling system with a modern moving block system. With the completion of the upgrade saw the train service frequency and capacity on the Northern Line increase as well as saw a huge improvement in the line’s reliability. This new signalling system has got the capability of supporting a higher train service frequency on the Northern Line if it wasn’t constrained by old Northern Line infrastructure. One of these constraints is the old depot control systems at Morden Depot which can not eject trains out of the depot fast enough to meet an increase train service frequency. Eliminating such constraints will unlock the true potential of the Northern Line and will increase the capacity on the line even further.
