Abstract

The IET Achievement Awards exist to celebrate the incredible talent within engineering and technology, with a wide range of categories to recognise people who have made a real impact in their industry.

The Armed Forces Technician Award recognises an individual who stands out from their peers and is making achievements in their area of expertise. Watch our short video of Sgt Dan Hardwick, our 2018 Armed Forces Technician of the Year winner, explain how the award has boosted his career.

    Sergeant Daniel Hardwick

rgeant Hardwick is an RAF Mechanical Aircraft Technician with over 20 Years’ experience in aircraft maintenance, modification and rectification. Sgt Hardwick was the mechanical trade leader for Operation KIPION, managing six Tornado GR4 aircraft. Recognising an inherent issue with the design of the Tornado GR4 rudder extraction mandrel, Sgt Hardwick identified the problem and in his own time designed a tool with improved strength, reduced wastage of material, and aided means of extraction should it fail. Forecast savings are over £18,500. Dan also volunteers much of his spare time developing, and participating in, interactive STEM activities to promote engineering futures in local Schools and Air Cadet Squadrons.
