Watch 10-year old Elin launch her engineered clarinet to the edge of space, as part of an IET competition to inspire young people about space travel and the world of aerospace engineering.
The competition ran with iconic kids comic BEANO after a recent study found that nearly half (48%) of under 16s believe a human colony on Mars will be established in their lifetime and asked kids to re-design something they couldn’t live without should they ever move to another planet.
As well as thinking about engineering their possessions to work in a different atmosphere, Elin’s clever adaptation of her space clarinet means she would never be without her beloved passion should she one day live on the red planet!
