About the session

Insights from e-motor value chains enabling a resilient materials supply chain and cross-sector collaboration

Session 12.2 - APC Technology Roadmaps

Dr Ying Li

The APC have created three new value chains covering different types of electric motors to enable the UK and European automotive industry and supply chain explore opportunities across the value chain. The new value chains for three types of e-motors (PMSM, IM and EESM) highlight the growing demand for electric motors in the automotive industry, particularly in the UK and Europe, along with exploring the demand for materials. With global demand for e-motors expected to triple in the next decade, the UK and Europe has the potential to create a thriving export business. However, there is a need for collaboration across the supply chain to drive opportunities, such as developing a diversified magnet supply chain, and leveraging the role of digitalisation in the design and engineering of e-motors. This talk unveils some of the supply chain challenges and opportunities to anchor the value-add from the transition of the automotive industry towards net zero.
