Abstract

Our exposure reviews the theoretical and technical aspects of electromagnetic shielding (SE or SEdB) measurements in the extended frequency range 20Hz-18GHz, as derived from the worldwide specific bibliography. The current theory, Schelkunoff isomorphism, is based on the algorithm of successive reflections and it is well founded, coherent and verified complementary through the applications in the field of Optics - the Fabry-Perot interferometer. However, the theoretical predictions for the near field and far field areas have not been experimentally validated except on narrow frequency ranges.

Our presentation emphasizes the electromagnetic shielding in the range 20Hz-100MHz, i.e. near field, magnetically generated. For this frequency range, there are currently no standards or in-depth research on the experimental validation of theoretical predictions, so the works published to date do not have an adequate degree of confidence. We present the theoretical basis, i.e. the equations that describe the phenomenology of the reflection and absorption of electromagnetic radiation, equations that are unanimously accepted in the scientific community in the field. The methodology used and the laboratory equipment that allowed obtaining the results are also presented.
