  • Location: IETTV_Room, IETTV_Venue, Manchester, United Kingdom
  • Part of event 7th International Conference on Power, Electronics, Machines & Drives (PEMD 2014)

About the session

A substation automation system (SAS) network guarantees protection switch control, smart substation operation and the reliability of data acquisition of a smart substation. According to the high reliability and real-time requirements of IEC 61850 for smart substationcommunication, a novel SAS network topology has been designed for a regional smart substation combined with a natural cobweb structure. Fault-tree analysis was applied to demonstrate the reliability of the architecture's topology. Theoretical analysis of the network delay based on the virtual link technology and OPNET Modeler simulation were employed to prove that the novel cobweb-topology architecture has real-time performance characteristics.
