  • Part of series The IET at Futurebuild

Abstract

What do the next five years have in store? Everybody agrees we should be doing more domestic retrofit, but in reality we are not. All of the main parties at the election promised action, but does BREXIT mean more retrofit paralysis? Do the policy ideas that can drive retrofit at scale already exist? Or are we still waiting for the eureka moment? Will a Conservative government with a thumping majority prioritise energy efficiency?

Rick Hartwig, Built Environment Lead at The Institution of Engineering and Technology, Sara Fletcher, Principal Policy & Programme Officer at New Energy Efficiency Programmes at the Greater London Authority, Chris Jofeh, Chair of Welsh Government Advisory - Group on decarbonisation of Welsh Housing Stock, and Ron van Erck, Co-founder and Head of International Market Development at Energiesprong are featured in this panel.

    Rick Hartwig

The IET, Head of Built Environment

In 2015 I joined The IET as Sector Head for the Built Environment.Working with Cambridge Architectural Research in 2014/5 I lead the submission of three Horizon 2020. Prior to this I worked as Project Manager for Designtech Solutions AB and was responsible for their delivery within European Commission funded project called CILECCTA, whose main goal was to develop Life Cycle Cost plus Analysis software for the development and operational management in the construction sector that would provide the user with a single view of financial and environmental factors. In addition I have coordinated two other Framework Programme R&D projects, written several proposals and worked in a half a dozen others, usually in the exploitation and dissemination area.Other project experience includes a number of charitable projects - a preschool, Street Pastors, one for kids in crisis, computers for children in care and the building of a school in Madagascar. In addition I have over 20 years in the banking sector. Experienced gained in credit and risk management; business development / sales in the personal, SME, corporate and financial institution sectors. I have over 10 years’ experience in church leadership.I love IT developments and can be something of a geek at times. I think 'On Demand' is a most amazing invention – I can watch a good film sans the smell of popcorn! Family are most important to me and is probably the way I enjoying spending most of the time. This leaves little time for playing golf. I enjoy watching cricket rugby F1 and snooker when I can.
