Abstract

In this EngShort we discuss the need for a new electrical ecosystem in the off-grid world. In the on-grid world, we simply connect our appliances and they work, but in the off-grid world there are 500 million people with an unreliable national grid. Cost and environmental disruption remain barriers. Most modern technologies such as mobile phones, tv’s and electric vehicles use DC internally and therefore need to rectify from AC to DC. This is not sustainable. Though the off-grid world is keen on developing sustainable energy generated in DC, they struggle to buy appliances designed to use this DC power. We are advocating for a new end to end DC electrical ecosystem. Comment below if you have any questions.
