EVI: Charging Ahead?
Shamala Gadgil-Evans, Coventry City Council
Coventry City Council's On-Street Residential Charge Point Programme (ORCS) has been submitted for the award due to its contribution towards accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles. The programme addresses the concerns of residents who lack off-street parking facilities by providing easy access to charge points on residential streets. The project has successfully secured £7.56 million of government funding and £3.7 million private sector investment, which has facilitated the installation of 958 charge points across the city, with a further 450 single and dual socket charge points being currently installed, due for completion April 2024. The project is part of the Council's larger plan to expand the public charging network in the city, which also includes 39 rapid chargers and 34 multi-storey car park chargers. This comprehensive charging network is one of the largest in the UK, helping to support the government's goal of reducing carbon emissions by promoting EV adoption.
