About the session

Bristol is Open' is the first SDN controlled Open Programmable City, a city-scale research infrastructure using fibre optic and 5G wireless connectivity and high performance computing. It is the first project of its kind in Europe offering the opportunity to experiment, learn and develop innovative solutions to many challenges of modern urban life. 5G technology promises to be the next phase of mobile telecommunications standards beyond 4G. The 'always efficient and connected' high speed access networks will benefit from evolved existing wireless technologies and new access standards designed to meet the demands of the Internet of Things, M2M communications and smart sensors. The industry and consumers expect big changes, but 5G remains largely undefined and not universally agreed in many areas. The IET seminar brings together wireless industry and academia R and D leaders to debate the future of 5G. Highlights of the day include: OFCOM session examining the impact of new 5G technologies on spectrum regulation and management 5G Innovation Centre presentation looking at major opportunities and challenges in the 5G research 4G to 5G: evolution or revolution? Industry-driven panel session discussing future spectrum needs and key technology enablers, with panellists representing 5GIC, Avanti, EE, Ericsson, GSM Association, Real Wireless and Telefonica Europe
