About the session
Dr Kathleen Richardson, Senior Research Fellow in the Ethics of Robotics at the Centre for Computing and Social Responsibility (CCSR), at De Montfort University, Leicester
On March 12, 2012, the world population stood at 7 billion people demonstrating an age of ample and flourishing human resources. At the same time, we are looking to machines and robots to be our friends, our carers and perhaps even our lovers. Does this moment represent a crisis of human attachment? Or should we welcome new robotic solutions to our existential problems of existence? My talk will examine these issues by exploring the developments to create caregiver and therapeutic robots and make a case for the importance of human relationship.
