About the session

The Human Factors Engineering Group within the Transportation Research Group in Southampton University engage in multiple research methods in a range of transport domains including Aviation, Road Vehicles, Cycling, Maritime and Rail. This presentation will give an overview of how we embrace behavioral science as part of as systems approach to understanding human’s interaction with transport technology.

    Dr Kirsten Revell

    University of Southampton, Transportation Research Group

    Dr Kirsten Revell, is a Human Factors Engineering research fellow in the Transportation Research Group (TRG) in the Faculty of Engineering and the Environment at the University of Southampton. She leads the autonomous vehicle domain in the Human Factors Engineering (HFE) team and, in collaboration with the University of Cambridge, is currently focused on the TASCC Jaguar Landrover/EPSRC project investigating Human Interaction: Designing Autonomy in Vehicles (HI:DAVe). Kirsten has gained degrees in both Psychology and Industrial Design in addition to her PhD in Human Factors. She has previously conducted research in military, domestic energy, and aviation domains, and has collaborated extensively with industry. Kirsten has recently been jointly awarded the Annual Aviation Safety Prize by the Honourable Company of Air Pilots and the Air Pilots Trust.

    Dr Vicky Banks

    University of Southampton, Transportation Research Group

    Dr Vicky Banks, BSc, EngD, is a Research Fellow in Aviation Human Factors within the Human Factors Engineering team at the University of Southampton. She received a BSc in Psychology from the University of Southampton in 2009 and went on to complete an EngD in Engineering and the Environment in 2016. Vicky’s primary research interest centres on agent-based modelling of complex systems operating at varying levels of autonomy and the subsequent validation of these models through simulation and user testing.
