Abstract
In this #EngShort we discuss the deployment of #AutonomousTransport and the new opportunities and challenges it brings. #Automation is widely expected to increase #RoadSafety as most crashes are caused by #HumanError. Other benefits include cost and flexibility. Challenges include assuring #safety in the design and operation of autonomous systems. Now is the time to look for opportunities to learn from other transport modes such as #road, #rail, #air and #maritime. Public acceptance will be essential to its adoption so further research is needed on the public perception of autonomous transport systems. Do you think crashes will be a thing of the past with the rise of autonomous transport systems? Comment below to let us know.
