This presentation describes a device to improve initial training, ongoing skills maintenance, and clinical practice of newborn resuscitation with a bag valve mask (BVM) ventilator. The Augmented Infant Resuscitator (AIR) device measures ventilation parameters and presents real-time feedback on ventilation quality. A technology acceptance and feasibility study in Uganda confirms the viability of the AIR prototype. Users were receptive to the idea of live feedback during instruction, simulation and clinical practice. Future work will focus on quantitative validation of the device and further improvements to the user interface.
