About the session
This presentation is an interview with David Coiley on the flight path reconstruction of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 and the future of space-based aircraft tracking. The loss of flight MH370 in March 2014 and the subsequent analysis by Inmarsat engineers of data transmitted automatically to the company's satellites has been of significant interest to the both the aviation and the space communities.Critical issues related to the tracking of intercontinental aircraft flights have been identified and are currently being addressed by the aerospace sector worldwide. In response to this, Inmarsat has proposed a number of new capabilities such as a free global airline tracking service, enhanced position reporting and a "black box in the cloud" system.
