Abstract
In this #EngShort we look at the role of #LocalAuthorities in addressing the #STEMskills shortage challenge. The UK economy suffers a loss of around £1.5bn per year due to STEM skill shortages. This is due to unfilled vacancies, a lack of skills and reduced productivity not just in large cities, but in small and rural towns across the UK. Local authorities are instrumental in delivering #education so a joint approach with other partners would help focus on local needs. Local authorities can have discussions between schools, colleges, universities and businesses making sure that the right skills and training is provided through appropriate experience. How else can local authorities help address the UK’s STEM #SkillsGap? Comment below to let us know your thoughts.
