About the session

This presentation describes a novel approach in locating sources of network impairments such as ingress, common path distortion, and second order distortion in an HFC network. The described approach uses passive radar technology and correlation techniques to determine the precise time distance to an impairment, uses electronic maps and device databases to exactly locate and flag the problematic device, and additionally uses special ingress marking probes to remotely identify zones of the plant that are sources of ingress. The described technology has proven to yield improvements in plant performance, time to repair problems, node health, and operational parameters, such as truck rolls and repeat service calls.
