About the session

    Laurie Reynolds founded the IET Water event in 2002 when he was Chairman of the IET Control and Automation Professional Network. He has worked in the water industry for most of his 40 year career, the majority with Thames Water and two in telecoms with Virgin Media.He founded AquamatiX in 2011 to pioneer the application of industrial Internet of Things in the water industry and is passionate about the importance of open standards.HyperCat is an IOT standard which emerged from the first series of demonstrators funded by the Technology Strategy Board (now Innovate UK) which addresses both vertical and horizontal interoperability – this means extending the life of legacy systems as well as extracting value from data silos and new sensor networks. HyperCat is generating a lot of interest in the future cities programme and is establishing the UK in a leading role in IOT. The paper will illustrate the application of HyperCat through a use case for a smart canal system.
