About the session

Autonomous vehicles are set to impact the existing network of stakeholders including governments, automobile manufacturers, servicer, insurers and consumers to name a few.

This major shift in transportation is driving the auto industry to a new frontier.

This event looks at the technologies and innovation to bring driverless cars to market.

Hear from Ian Yarnold, Head of International Vehicle Standards Division from the Department for Transport about opportunities, barriers and policy initiatives towards intelligent transport systems.

Understand the strategies towards mitigation and counter measures from autonomous vehicle cyber risk, threats and vulnerabilities from Prof Roy Isbell, Cyber Security Centre of University of Warwick.

Other sessions will cover risks and hazards, safety, consumer engagement, legal and insurance issues, as well as, international perspectives, car manufacturer perspectives and case studies.

Also in attendance will be the GATEway project consortium who will trial their driverless vehicle at the seminar providing delegates with the opportunity to be one of the world’s first to experience the ride.

    Newcastle City Council, Urban Traffic Management Control Manager

    Ray King MSc is the Urban Traffic Management and Control Manager for Tyne and Wear and is responsible for the implementation of strategies and interventions required to deliver the policy aspirations of the North East Combined Authority.Based at Newcastle University, he liaises closely with the University’s Transport Operations Research Group on a number of research, development and demonstration projects and is currently working on Compass4D, a European Demonstration Project involving V2X technologies.Previously Ray worked for Gateshead Council as a Project Manager on a variety of Transport Projects, specialising in Road Safety and Casualty Reduction.
