    Dermot Nolan

    Ofgem, chief executive

    Dermot Nolan has recently been appointed as Chief Executive of Ofgem. He was previously a member of the Commission for Energy Regulation (CER) and became Chairperson in May 2011. His responsibilities at the CER included the regulation of retail gas and electricity, the Single Electricity Market (SEM) and the Commission’s Smart Metering project. Dermot Nolan completed his PhD in Economics at Yale University before lecturing at the University of London for five years, specialising in the areas of market structures and firm performance. He joined the Competition Authority in 2001and was manager of its merger division for most of his time there. He became Senior Economic Adviser at the Commission for Communications Regulation in 2005.
