About the session

If there’s one thing you’ll be more aware of than the BIM Mandate it’s that we’ve got an incredible skills gap in the industry. Like many things, there isn’t a quick and easy solution, or is there?

The digital revolution that’s taking place in our industry is radically changing the way we design, build, and manage our built environment. There are incredible examples of innovation and technology in use across the entire industry. These new ways of working and technologies could offer the key to helping create a more rich and diverse industry. Encouraging younger generations to look at the built environment differently, helping create a more aspirational environment to work in. They could also hold the power to helping educate and upskill our current workforce, ensuring that we continue to benefit from the incredible knowledge and expertise already available.

From university partnerships to Minecraft for BIM, Schools competitions to online coaching and digital mentoring. This session is about real life examples of strategies in place. You will gain an insight into the ways that you too can help answer the question of the skills shortage in your own business and the important role of innovation and technology in changing the face of our built environment.

My passion for drawing has always influenced my career choices and from an early age I was sketching landscapes and buildings. However, I was raised in a musical family and playing several instruments from the age of 5 meant that music has always been close to my heart.I have had a mixed working life. I initially studied graphic design and illustration at degree level before working for a new media company in Estonia for 4 years. My early career was working mostly in interactive design, then from graphic design and illustration to website, online games and interface design. My illustration skills took me to work for Star Trek fact file magazine and then to graphic design work producing posters and magazines for dance festivals and events in Estonia. My website and interactive design experience lead me to work for Vodafone, Citroen, Nokia. My architectural study started in Oxford Brookes, which created a new inspiration and passion in my life. After obtaining my Part 3 the focus of my development was to use my passion for computer technology as an enabler for the design process. My role at RPP is perfect for this as I help create a BIM process that would support and enhance creativity and design.
