Abstract
Around the world climate change and carbon reduction has become a major driving force for public policy. In conjunction with the mega greening of energy supply, substantial CO2 reductions can be achieved by using less energy at the workplace. For this to happen, a multitude of actions will need to be taken by a great number of individuals and organisations. The Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and the Business Council for Sustainable Energy teamed up with the IET to commission research into organisational attitudes to carbon reduction. The study comprised a UK-wide survey of 1,500 managers and a selection of short case study interviews across a wide range of organisations in different sectors.Ruth will highlight the findings of the Chartered Management Institute's 'Lean and Green' report. She will focus on why the 'green agenda' must be given greater attention in a business environment, detail the dichotomy that exists between Boardrooms and junior staff and outline what businesses are doing now and what they should be doing to tackle environmental concerns.
