Achievements on life and reliability tools in the framework of WP4 of the NEWGEN project - UniBo Contributions
Professor GIOVANNI MAZZANTI, University of Bologna, Italy
Presentation Summary
Here the main achievements obtained so far about the development of dedicated life and reliability models for the new generation of HVDC cable systems in the framework of the NEWGEN project are illustrated, with focus on the contributions by the University of Bologna team, namely a procedure for life and reliability estimation in the presence of load cycles and of voltage transients (temporary overvoltages and voltage polarity reversals), as well as on the empirical expressions for electrical conductivity as a function of temperature and electric field, and on the novel bipolar charge transport model specifically conceived for the NEWGEN project.
NEWGEN: Insulation materials characterisation progress
Maya Mourad, SuperGrid Institute, France
Presentation Summary
Chemically modified polyolefins matrices, with PP and XLPE based HVDC cable insulation, are investigated for the development of new HVDC cable insulation compounds. Material and dielectric characterization are performed on mini-scale laboratory samples and hot-pressed specimens. Relationships between structure and dielectric properties are established to guide the development of the insulation compounds and the space charge mitigating additives. Results will also feed the HVDC cable life and reliability modelling activities of the project.
