About the session

A collaborative approach to CIP and CIIP is a priority if we are to effectively to safeguard our critical infrastructure. As more and more essential systems are managed electronically, interdependence between systems both physical and cyber needs to be clearly understood to ensure the delivery of services in the face of natural disasters, terrorist attacks, and criminal activity.

    Gonzalo Martin de Mercado

    ESA – European Space Agency, Studies Manager, Integrated Applications

    Gonzalo Martín de Mercado works for ESA – European Space Agency, Europe’s Gateway to space. For more than 50 years, ESA has contributed to disaster emergency response by enabling global initiatives such as the “International Charter Space & Major Disasters”, but also working in a variety of more concrete projects targeting the needs of local and national governments, civil protection and other disaster-related organisations. Gonzalo works in ESA’s Downstream Services programme, focused on the identification and enabling of initiatives concerning space and energy with relevant sectorial stakeholders. Gonzalo worked previously as a project manager for INSA, a public company property of the Spanish Ministry of Defence, as well as for Atos Origin. He is a Telecommunications Engineer, PRINCE2® and MSP® certified project and programme manager, holding MSc and post-grade degrees from UVa, the University of Valladolid, and UPM, the Polytechnic University of Madrid Spain.
