Abstract

As the national energy grid infrastructure becomes ‘smarter’ with both the smart grid and modern intelligent devices for monitoring and system protection, more elements are potentially susceptible to cyber-attacks.Cyber security threats exploit the increased complexity and connectivity of critical infrastructure systems and none can potentially be more disruptive than an attack on the national electrical grid.

Cyber-attacks can have a detrimental impact financially and cause significant reputational harm. Cyber security risk affects a company’s bottom line. It can drive up costs and impact revenue, harm an organisation’s ability to innovate and impact its ability to gain and retain customers.

As the risk of cyber- attacks to vital energy infrastructure is a relatively new threat, this seminar will be a platform for those new to the possible threats within the power industry to learn how they might deal with them and to instigate long term tactics for system protection and control.

It will provide guidance and strategic advice on the national grid and cyber security exploring procedural, technological and risk management approaches to ensure security and reliability.
