Abstract
The holiday combined some excellent skiing with engineering games. The children on the trip were split in to five teams, each team named after a famous engineer. After spending the day skiing down the awesome slopes of Les Deux Alpes, they spent their evenings building paper bridges to cross a gap. A remote controlled car was driven over the bridges to test their strength and durability. Prizes were given to the winning team and to those who had put the most effort in to the challenge. The aim of this challenge was to help children become aware of the importance of engineers (and particularly civil engineers) in the world around them. This was reinforced throughout the trip, with features such as ski lifts pointed out as achievements of engineers.
