Ramp metering is a traffic management tool widely used by the Highways Agency to help keep motorway traffic moving at busy junctions. Through partnership with local highways authorities, with the use of integrated traffic management and integrated network management, it is hoped that ramp metering can be a key tool in the better management of the strategic and inter urban road network.
