SDR (software-defined radio) is a buzz-word that covers many different aspects. Full SDR, the radio that can do anything, is still a far-away dream. The speaker's guess is 2012. SDR in its basic form is "simply" the classical path towards more functional integration and flexibility. Its main drivers are the growing number of standards to be supported and cost reduction (strongly linked to use cases).
