Abstract
The final IET Healthcare Think BIG event of 2018, organised with the support of the Eastern Academic Health Science Network and Medcity, took place in Cambridge on 22 November.
The event brought together leading scientists, engineers, opinion formers, politicians and thought leaders to discuss the opportunities and challenges that big data and medical devices present.
Medical devices are indispensable for healthcare delivery, but their selection, regulation and use present enormous ethical and practical challenges. The event gave attendees an opportunity to learn, discuss and understand the achievements that have been made in the field, and explore the challenges that still lie ahead.
IET Healthcare interviewed two of the speakers from the event - Lancor Scientific CEO Aamir Butt and Christian Moroy, CTO at Edge Health - about some of the main topics that were covered on the day, including the control and ownership of patient data, gaining the trust and acceptance of clinicians and how the advancement of technology can lead to better patient outcomes.
