About the session

The move to a low-carbon future requires us to rethink how we plan, design, construct and operate our built environment. This presentation first introduces some of the main drivers and challenges we face getting to carbon neutral. It discusses low- and zero-carbon aspirations for new buildings, retrofit programmes and, at an urban scale, using case study examples to illustrate developments in research and practice. It introduces new technologies, which use a more integrative approach for energy supply, demand and storage. It also provides examples of universities working with industry and government to help deliver low-carbon policy into practice.
