  • Duration: 33 mins
  • Publication date: 04 Dec 2013
  • Location: IETTV_Room, IETTV_Venue, Abingdon, United Kingdom
  • Part of event Lightning Protection for Aircraft Components

About the session

The safety and reliability of an aircraft's flight depends heavily on the functionality of sensitive flight control systems. Modern aircraft are now heavily dependent on components that are sensitive to EMI. The use of non-conductive composite materials in aircraft design has increased significantly over the last few years, and so has the need to prevent electromagnetic hazards caused by indirect effects of lightning. This seminar examines how various building components of civil aircraft behave under lightning conditions and what particular techniques can be utilised to counter interference. The presentation features demonstrations of the latest aircraft lightning techniques being used at the Cardiff University's Morgan-Botti Lightning Laboratory.
