In January 2013, proposals to extend Britain's new high-speed rail network were announced. This talk explores how the lessons learned from HS1 can be applied to HS2, focusing on the engineering and overall system network aspects of the project.

    Head of Engineering and Operations, HS2 Ltd.Holding both Bachelor and Master's degrees in engineering Tim is a chartered civil engineer with over thirty years' experience in design and management of major infrastructure projects, in particular railways. Tim's experience has included holding senior positions in the construction of railways in the UK and Europe, in particular the Channel Tunnel Rail Link (now HS1) and the Jubilee Line Extension to London's Underground network.Tim heads the engineering and operational functions at HS2 and prior to joining the team he played a significant role in developing high speed rail in the UK in his position as Engineering Director at HS1 which links London at St Pancras with the continent via the Channel Tunnel.Tim has also previously headed the operational engineering and maintenance functions on some the busiest regions of the UK's main national rail network and acted in various capacities for European rail industry working groups and is currently a member of the UIC High Speed Rail Committee.
