    Neil Manthorpe

    Atkins Global

    Neil Manthorpe is a Principal Urban Designer and Innovation Hub leader at Atkins. Neil specialises in the creation of green infrastructure links and the design of streets and spaces for people. He has worked on a variety of international and UK projects including Oxford Circus, Hampstead Heath and the Regent Street Strategy.Neil has used his experience to develop several international walking and cycling design guides particularly within the Middle East as well as China and Australia. These have included the Abu Dhabi Walking and Cycling Masterplan; the Bahrain National Planning and Development Strategy public realm guidance and the Doha Aspire Cycle strategy.Neil sits on the Wandsworth Design Review Panel assessing major planning applications within the borough including the recent Nine Elms developments. Spatial analysis and the movement of people is of particular interest to Neil and plays an important role in design development and used as a tool in creating effective places for people. The latest technologies play a major role in enabling this analysis and the subsequent design realisation.

    Telefonica, Vice President

    Mike's career spans 39 years in Electronics and Telecommunications, covering Technology, Innovation and Public policy, particularly in mobile communications. After running design and manufacturing for subsidiaries of Philips Industries, and Toshiba (then called Landis and Gyr) , he joined BT in 1983 and was appointed in 1989 as a Director of O2 UK (now part of Telefónica but originally called Cellnet) to launch Digital 2G (or GSM) mobile networks. He later went on to run the 3G business case and launch 3G in the UK. He has served as a member of the UK Govenrment committees on Internet and Broadband access, ICT Sector Trade advice and an advisory committees on London 2012. He was elected Chairman – global GSM Association in 1995 and then a Board member until 2002 ; and chaired the UK Mobile Data Association 1998 – 2008. From 2007/13 he was a Board member of UK Council for Child Internet Safety and an IET Trustee (elected IET President 2011/2012). He was also elected to the Board of ETSI for 3 years 2011/14 and Chaired the TSB backed ICT KTN 2007/14. Mike's Telefónica focus today is on European public policy that relates to innovation, whether research or new business development. This includes a focus on advanced mobile services and data applications including Mobile TV , Mobile learning, Smart Metering, Transport Telematics and Connected Healthcare, Emergency services and “5G” Research . He is a Visiting Professor at Surrey, Leeds, and Lancaster Universities ; a Board Governor of Coventry University and Ravensbourne , Greenwich ; a Fellow of IET/BCS/RGS/ Royal Academy, and recently appointed as a REF 2014 University Research “Impact” assessor. Mike was honoured with a CBE by the Her Majesty the Queen in June 2012 for services to the Mobile industry after 25 years industrial experience.

    Miranda heads the smart cities practice at Ordnance Survey, which works with jurisdictions in the UK and further afield to aggregate data in the most efficient way to enable citizens to have the best outcomes in complex areas like congestion and health. As Britain’s mapping agency, Ordnance Survey has a long and proud tradition of building both capability and standards to enable global interoperability in sustainable environments, both rural and urban. Miranda has worked in both public and private sector, gathering a varied background in operations, business development, regulatory affairs, and strategy. All have been strung together with a passion for better customer experience.

    John is a senior business professional with significant experience in strategic marketing, general management, international sales and business development in both mature and entrepreneurial businesses. As a Global ICT Strategy and Technology Advisor to the international trade arm of Government, UK Trade and Investment (UKTI), John provides technology and business advice to the Strategic Trade Team and UKTI inward investment team. Working closely with UK SME's and MNC's, John has developed many contacts within both SME’s and MNC’s in the UK's technology sector that include Information and Communications Technologies (ICT), Biotechnology, Nanotechnology, Optoelectronics, and the UK Science and Technology base. Significant experience has been gained in introducing UK technology companies to overseas markets working closely with the Government agencies, trade associations and research networks both in the UK and overseas.

    Dejan Bojic is Director of Solutions Strategy and Development at NEC Europe. In this role he is responsible for identifying new market growth segments in the region, and for defining high level solution concepts required for early stages of business incubation. Dejan’s current focus is on business models and technology platforms within a broad range of Smart City services and applications. Dejan joined NEC in early 2009, prior to which he has held senior positions in product management and technical services in both blue chip and start-up companies in telecommunications industry

    John Stenlake, previously the Worldwide Automotive Technologist for Microsoft Corporate and Chief Architect for Ford Motor Company, is the Chief Technology Officer for Living PlanIT, providing corporate leadership for our continued innovation and use of technology. John has personally led the architecture, design, development, and initial deployments of the award-winning PlanIT Urban Operating System for over more than 5 years. John has more than 30 years' experience in Information Technology development, management, strategy, implementation, and consulting. Prior to joining Living PlanIT, John worked for Microsoft Corporation for 6 years, the last 3 of which were spent as the Director of Technology Strategy for the Automotive Vertical worldwide. John worked closely with multiple Microsoft product groups in order to ensure that the right offerings are brought to the Automotive market, as well as working closely with select customers on advanced vehicle and IT projects. Prior roles inside Microsoft also include CTO, Manufacturing in the US, and Senior Architect in the Manufacturing Industry Architecture Team for Microsoft Consulting Services. In these roles John consulted with multiple customers on enterprise application architecture and strategy, and in particular drove messaging, uptake and deployment of Service Oriented Architecture. Before joining Microsoft, John spent twenty years with Ford Motor Company both in Europe and in the US. John's team led the development and deployment of Enterprise Architecture within Ford. John holds Master of Arts and Bachelor of Arts degrees in Mathematics from Oxford University in the UK and has been recognized as a Member of the British Computer Society and also as a Chartered Engineer. He has also received charter member certification as a Microsoft Certified Solutions Architect (MCSA).
