Abstract
In the UK, the NHS is a huge part of our lives. Commanding a budget well in excess of a hundred billion pounds annually, the organisation is always in the public consciousness and often at the forefront of political debate. It’s also an organisation under serious pressure, as budget debates and healthcare crises are never far away. To prepare for the future, the NHS has to work with technology providers to make use of the latest innovations as it strives to deliver industry-leading healthcare for the nation.
However, bringing a new medical product to market can be a challenging process and innovators face numerous obstacles when seeking to get their technology adopted by an organisation that has historically struggled in this area. The structure of the NHS and its approach to innovation continues to create challenges for the sector. What does the healthcare industry need to do to resolve this?
