Abstract
Cambridge Consultants have won the Innovation Award for Information Technology for UMI - Universal Metering Interface - an Open Standard allowing different communications standards to be included in Smart meters. (Conceptually like USB in PCs.) The judges felt that the entry showed strong commercial potential for a solution to the problems of IT information security and interoperability within smart utility networks. The IET Innovation Awards celebrate the products, technologies and processes that lead the way in engineering innovation. Spanning 15 categories, the Awards are judged by engineering experts and recognise the depth and breadth of innovative work being carried out across all areas of engineering and technology.
