    Nick Winser

    Energy Systems Catapult, Chairman

    Nick Winser’s career within the energy sector spans over 30 years, culminating in his recent appointment as Chairman of Energy Systems Catapult. Catapult is the UK’s technology and innovation centre established by Innovate UK to support companies and the Government in developing products and services to address the new commercial opportunities created by the transformation of UK and global energy systems. Prior to his appointment, Nick served on the Board of the National Grid becoming its UK and European CEO in 2011.His extensive experience of the sector resulted in his election as President of the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (2013-2015) and his Chairmanship of CIGRE UK, the International Council on Large Electric Systems. Currently Vice President and Trustee of the Institution of Engineering & Technology, Nick will assume the role of Deputy President in October 2015. Previously chair of the IET’s Membership & Professional Development Committee, Nick is chair of both the Finance & Investment Committee and the Power Academy. Additionally, Nick has a professional interest in the construction sector, having been a non-executive Director of Kier Group since 2009. Nick was awarded a CBE in 2014.

    Jon is a founding director of Delta-ee, a specialist research and consulting company. Jon leads Delta-ee’s work with UK and European utilities including retailers and network operators. Delta-ee provides deep expertise in how opportunities and threats from developments on the customer side of the meter - including distributed energy, heat, connectivity and new energy services business models. He also advises equipment manufacturers and controls companies across Europe, with a particular focus on integration of the demand side with the rest of the electricity system.Previously Jon worked for Platts, managing their distributed energy research, and the UK’s Energy Saving Trust, managing their energy services and CHP programmes. Jon has over 15 years' experience in the distributed energy and heat sectors.

    Colin started his professional career in SP Energy Networks in 1990 as an operational engineer and has gained significant experience in networks over the past 25 years in analytical, regulatory, commercial and strategic roles.In 2007, he moved to the position of Head of Design where he was responsible for all major extensions, upgrades and new connections to the networks in Scotland, Merseyside and North Wales from 33kV to 400kV. Subsequently he was seconded to the role of Asset Strategy Director in 2009 prior to taking up the senior role as Head of Transmission Programmes in 2012. In this position he was responsible for leading the delivery of SP Energy Networks £2.5bn RIIO T1 Investment Programme on the 132kV, 275kV and 400kV system in Scotland.In 2014 Colin took up his current role as the Engineering Services Director for the three the whole of SP Energy Networks licence areas.     Chris became Director of Gas Distribution in June 2015. He is accountable for serving c.11 million customers across 4 gas distribution networks; operating the system and maintaining it safely. This involves responding to 500,000 emergency jobs and replacing 1600kms of metal mains a year and operating the National Gas Emergency Number on behalf of all distribution networks. Gas Distribution also connect new customers to the network, both domestic and through different energy sources such as biomethane.Prior to this Chris was Group Director, Safety, Sustainability & Resilience from March 2014. He was accountable for the Group safety of National Grid plc, the strategic and future direction of our sustainability and climate change agenda, with global responsibility for Resilience.His previous role was Director, Market Operation for 7 years. Responsible for the real time operation of National Grid’s electricity and gas transmission networks in GB, forward energy trading and balancing services, operational forecasting, and leading the development of future energy supply and demand scenarios that take an holistic view of UK energyHe has over 20 years experience within the energy and utility sector and led the National Grid acquisitions of Keyspan and New England Gas in the north east US. These transactions followed the successful sale of half of National Grid’s UK gas distribution Networks.He has held a number of engineering regulation and commercial positions. Chris is a Chartered Engineer and a member of the Energy Institute, the Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers, and the Chartered Institute of Marketing. He has extensive experience operating in the commercial and regulatory environment in the UK, US and Europe.Chris was awarded an OBE in the New Year’s Honours list 2014 for services to the Gas and Electricity Industry as Chair of the Energy Emergency Executive Committee.

    DECC, Deputy Director and Head of Future Electricity Networks

    David has worked on energy and climate issues for over 13 years for 3 different Government departments. He has been at the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) since its creation in 2008, and currently heads up the Future Electricity Networks team. He has previously worked on international climate change and the EU emissions trading system.
