About the session

In this session Carolina Bartram will explore the future of the built environment and the ways in which we will interact with the buildings around us in centuries to come. But first we'll explore the technological advances coming our way and the opportunities they will open up to us if we chose to embrace them.

    Carolina Bartram is a professionally qualified engineer with degrees in both engineering and architecture. Her main fields of interest are within the disciplines of materials technology and complex analysis. With a background in engineering and architecture, Carolina’s focus has often been on complex architectural projects where engineering has necessitated ground breaking solutions. She forms part of the leadership of one of Arup’s building engineering teams and help manage a group of approximately 80 multidisciplinary engineers and teaches a materials technology course and workshop at the Architectural Association in London.Over the last 15 years Carolina has collaborated with high profile architects on a variety of national and international projects such as the CCTV tower and Serpentine Pavilion with Rem Koolhaas and OMA; Bordeaux Football Stadium and a cultural centre in Sao Paulo with Herzog and De Meuron Architects; a 280m tall tower in Hangzhou with UN Studio and various projects with Renzo Piano.Carolina has significant design experience in the arts and culture field, working on high profile projects such as the V&A Museum, including the new Exhibition Road Quarter, and the Science Museum.
