Abstract

The IET Members Annual Information Event including the Annual General Meeting and reception, which will take place on Tuesday, 16 May 2017 at 6pm (BST) at IET London: Savoy Place.

The event will include networking opportunities with Trustees and staff, as well as the formal AGM and presentations on the IET’s activities and achievements.

The event will be streamed live and there will be an opportunity for members to ask questions at the event and online.

    The IET President

    Jeremy Watson is Vice-Dean for Engineering Mission and Professor of Engineering Systems in the Department of Science, Technology, Engineering and Public Policy at UCL.Concurrently, he is Chief Scientist and Engineer at the Building Research Establishment (BRE). Jeremy was previously Arup’s Global Research Director, and Chief Scientific Advisor in the Department of Communities and Local Government (DCLG).An electronics and control engineer by training and practice, he has senior experience of research and technical direction in industry and universities, governing board membership at Innovate UK and EPSRC, plus service with NERC and HEFCE.He has served on two government SAGE panels (Flooding and Pandemics) and a Blackett Review on Cybersecurity of the Internet of Things. Jeremy is Deputy President of the Institution for Engineering and Technology and Chair of BuildingSMART UK.He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, the ICE and the IET. His specialities include research strategy, systems thinking, innovation processes, and emerging technology identification.Jeremy is Director of a £9.8m research hub funded by EPSRC. This is composed of nine universities collaborating research on Cybersecurity of the Internet of Things. The hub has been pledged a further £13m by its partners for on-going research

    Nigel Fine was appointed Chief Executive of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) in June 2009. The IET is one of the world’s leading professional societies for the engineering and technician community, with more than 150,000 members in 127 countries. The IET provides a global knowledge network to facilitate the exchange of ideas and promote the positive role of science, engineering and technology in the world.Nigel graduated from UMIST in 1978 with a BSc (Hons) in Civil Engineering and received his MBA from the London Business School in 1984. He is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the ICE and IET.His professional career has included working for Experian Plc where he was Managing Director for EMEA and Asia Pacific and he was an Associate Partner at Andersen Consulting (Accenture). His early career was with John Laing and International Paint.Nigel is a non-executive Director of EngineeringUK and Chairs the Professional Panel of CEO’s representing the licensed Professional Engineering Institutions in the UK, and Chairs the Audit Committee. He sits on the Strategy Board of Education for Engineers and the Technician Council.

    Jack has recently retired from full time employment having spent most of his working life operating and maintaining large industrial facilities in the UK and Africa. He has been an active member of the Devon and Cornwall local IET committee serving as Chairman and Secretary and now being the IET Connect representative. He was very pleased to become a trustee and believes it is important that there is awareness of the increasing services provided for members and dependants and to ensure it has continuing funding for the future.
