In doing so it fools the liver into believing it is still in the body performing its normal functions by recreating the core functions of the body. It is the overall system design which impressed the panel members. With both biological and technological aspects it was particularly exciting. The procedure has been shown to work successfully and is an incredible step on from the method used till now of packing livers in ice, rushing to a desperate patient and hoping for the best. As a result many organs have deteriorated to too great an extent, potentially resulting in patient death. Not only does OrganOx metra keep the liver alive such that it can be successfully transplanted it also provides important insightful data for the medical staff involved.
