Abstract

In 2015, the IET hosted its inaugural Engineering Open House Day by joining forces with a number of iconic venues and businesses across the UK. All of the organisations involved offered insight into what life is like as an engineer, highlighted the important roles they play in businesses and the creative careers that are available in the industry. In 2016, Engineering Open House Day will take place on Friday 29 July and we want the event to be bigger and better, but we need your help!

Alison Carr

The IET, Director of Governance and Policy

Alison Carr was appointed as Director of Governance and Policy in March 2014.Alison started her career with the Insurance Brokers Registration Council (IBRC) and was the Deputy Registrar at the time of the transfer of the organisation’s responsibilities owing to a change in legislation. During her time with the IBRC, Alison qualified as a Chartered Secretary.Alison moved to the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales where she worked in a number of areas, including investment business and insolvency policy.Alison’s most recent position before joining the IET was Registrar and Chief Executive of the Architects Registration Board (ARB). The ARB is the UK regulator for architects and the UK competent authority for architects, helping to facilitate the movement of architects across Europe. Alison worked closely with the Department of Communities and Local Government, ARB’s sponsoring Government Department.Alison is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators.
