Abstract

The AGM was held on 15 June 2023 at 2pm in Savoy Place, followed by the SGM at 2.30pm.  The AGM purpose was the following:

1. To receive the minutes of the previous meeting.

2. To receive a report from the Chief Executive and Secretary on the IET’s achievements in the previous year.

3. To receive a report from the President about the Institution’s plans for the future.

4. To receive a report from Council.

5. To receive and consider the Trustees Report and Financial Statements for the year ended 31 December 2022.

6. To approve auditors for 2023.

7. Vote of thanks to:

(a) The honorary officers and members of all Institution Boards and Committees;

(b) The staff of the Institution.

The purpose of the SGM was to consider and, if thought fit, approve the following resolutions:

Resolution 1: to amend the Institution’s Royal Charter;

Resolutions 2 to 6: to amend the Institution’s Bye-laws.

    Professor Bob Cryan

    Bob Cryan is Vice-Chancellor of the University of Huddersfield, an institution of 22,000 students from 120 countries, and the recipient of the Queen’s Anniversary Prize and the Times Higher Education University of the Year Award.He holds six degrees including two first-class honours (engineering, mathematics), an MBA and two doctorates.He is the recipient of the inaugural Guardian Inspiring University Leader of the Year Award and the Daily Telegraph Educate North Leadership Award.Bob was awarded a CBE in the Queen’s 2014 Birthday honours for services to higher education and later that year invited to become a Companion of the Chartered Management Institute.Bob is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, and a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology. His subject area is Telecommunications and he has co-authored over 200 journal and conference publications.In addition to engineering, Bob is interested in leadership and entrepreneurship and sits on the Board of the Chartered Management Institute, the Peter Jones Foundation, and iDEA, an initiative that aims to engage one million young people in digital enterprise.

    Ed Almond joined the IET in 2001 as Head of Business Planning and Performance. Ed gained an MBA in 2004 before becoming Director of Corporate Strategy & Planning in 2005 and taking up his current role in 2006. Previously he worked within the John Sisk construction group and provided strategic support to the UK Board.In 1989 Ed commenced training as an accountant with Ernst & Young working with a wide variety of clients including McDonnell Information Systems and Leica. He qualified in 1992 and is now a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales.Ed trained in Biological Sciences at the University of Exeter before completing a Masters in Applied Molecular Biology at University College London. With a particular interest in extremely thermophilic archaebacteria, Ed undertook postgraduate research within the Chemical Engineering departments of Cornell University and the University of California at Berkeley before returning to the UK and working for the SERC at Rothamstead Research Station in 1987.
