About the session
ACDC 2017 - The 13th IET international conference on AC and DC Power Transmission
Full presentation title - Fault arc extinction and system re-start on HVDC transmission lines using LCC or VSC full-bridge converters with integrated arc recovery simulation models
Session A3: DC Network Protection 2
Room: Alexandra B
Session chair: Norman MacLeod, Parsons Brinckerhoff, UK
This video covers:
LCC HVDC and VSC HVDC full-bridge converters are particularly suitable for the task of clearing fault arcs on HVDC transmission lines: they allow
the extraction of energy stores in the power line
the minimization of the energy fed into the fault
A dynamic recovery of the transmission line on the shortest possible timescale is made feasible if
suitable re-start strategies
suitable arc recovery models, and
suitable converter technologies are available.
We report on the development of a respective
physical model of the arc and its extinction,
the line recovery behaviour, and
the implementation into a simulation tool of a bi-polar
HVDC converter which inclusdes a transmission model.
This video covers the following topics: HVDC ransmission lines.
