This presentation documents the reasons behind the present revision of EN50126 (The specification and demonstration of Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety (RAMS)) currently being undertaken by the CENELEC Working Group 14. EN50126 was initially written for signalling systems but it and its supporting standards EN50128 (Software for railway control and protection systems) and 50129 (Safety related electronic systems for signalling) have been applied both to rolling stock and electrification in the absence of a standard for those disciplines. The aim is to produce a coherent suite of standards that replace the present EN50126, EN50128 and EN50129, which will also incorporate the safety aspects of EN50155 (electronic equipment used on rolling stock).
