As technology pervades every area of our lives, are we declining into a nation of consumers? Despite the increasing presence of ICT in everyday life, a recent international review from EPSRC indicates that our young people show low enthusiasm for this once popular subject. It recommends urgent action to attract young people if the UK is to retain its competitiveness in the top tier of this sector. The CBI has similarly warned that Britain needs to double the number of science and engineering graduates leaving university by 2014 or risk losing skilled jobs overseas.
